Really, if you ask yourself “what would happen to someone in an anarchist society who killed a serial killer/rapist/molester/etc etc in revenge” and the answer is “little or nothing” you probably have your answer to how that society would handle serial killers, rapists, molesters, etc.

A rapist/murderer might be just a rapist/murderer to some, to others the person might alsl be friend, relative, lover, child or parent. While I do not see myself in the position to stop someones revenge against their abuser or the killer of a loved one, I really hope this will not be the norm. Because as I said, the killed person might have people that care about them that most likely will get hurt by this and also might want to do revenge for that. I also believe that the act of killing can be very harmful to those doing the killing.

I think anarchist societies should focus on prevention and doing things that actually help those that got harmed, which might vary widely by the individual.

I think there are far more alternatives and also ways to mix them.

One more alternative would be constant care taking by one or more people. In case the community cant/doesnt want to provide that full time, it might be possible to mix this with other options that might reduce the persons autonomy.

However, as I understand it, at times the only real way to protect the community in the society we currently live in seems to be talking with the pigs.

I think this is true in some situations and imo its okay to call the cops in a situation that not only endangers the community but also oneself. Like people trying to physically harm you and you don’t have any safer alternatives to protect yourself. Sadly many people are not part of communities that enable them to fully skip every interaction with cops.

To your serial killer example: If in your hypothetical situation there is a key benefit in turning the evidence over to the police in comparison to just publishing it so everyone(including the police)/only your local community can access the evidence, I dont see why not. Its also not something I would call “snitching”.

In an anarchistic society the serial killer could be sent to the psych ward and dealt with humanely.

Also I just want to mention, I think this is not something with a consensus in anarchist circles.

As already pointed out Ted has highly problematic views that should also be present in his Manisfesto. There are probably anarchist text with similar perspectives that are not so full of bigotry. I would suggest looking into anti civ or other technology critical text on the anarchist library.

Besides that a person that I find very inspiring sometimes mentions the Unabomber and they seemed to be able to get atleast thought provoking perspextives put the Kaczynskis work.

Hey sorry but why are you reacting like that? Calling someone a cop in anarchist circles is a really heavy accusation and should only be done with actual proof. I also think we should own the fact that anarchists have different or sometimes stupid opinions. Othering people that we dont agree with does not foster an environment where people discuss openly and feel comfortable stating their views or asking questions.

Yeah and still we should not push the message that Telegrams encryption is even remotely close to other encrypted messengers. I met more than one person that somehow thought their messages in Telegram are “safer” than they are in WhatsApp (and they never activated the encrypted chat oprion in Telegram)

It took the german goverment years to force Telegram to comply with their requests to get data and shut down specific groups. Also based on your location things that might be legal are not legal in a different location, from a German legal perspective there still lots of things happening in Telegram that are atleast a grey area(piracy, hate speech, porn) or straight up illegal(drugs, terrorist groups propaganda).

I am not in favor of the arrest or any goverment repression btw, I am just adding why goverments in europe might want to do stuff like this.

I dont think Telegram is something that I would call an “encrypted messenger”

Considering how hard it is for goverments to actually get Telegram to shutdown criminal chat groups or get chat logs (of unencrypted ) groups I think its at least more reasonable than the whole idea of banning E2E encryption.

I would like to encourage you to use the report function if you see things that you think are homophobic or in any other way hateful towards an oppressed group. Might be that the mods of the instance / community do not agree, but atleast then you will know their position and how much it aligns with yours.

It’s super rare to have a pleasant interaction with hexbear users. And I think thats something they are proud of. To me this just really sad, because how exactly are you spreading your propaganda effectively when everyone just thinks you are annoying?

Also on hexbear users of other instances or other instances as a whole get heavily misrepresented and there seems to be no good faith when interacting with other communities that are not closely aligned in their political stance. (Of course hexbear itself also suffers from lots of misrepresentation, which probably contributes a lot to their in group / out group thinking)
