IT is usually safe from this kind of dumb stuff, but then again that insulation might have been part of the reason why business people were considering no/low-code.
misk@piefed.socialto Opensource@programming.dev•Three years of building no-code software for political organizationsEnglish4·5 days agoI’ve worked in business process automation for a bit. In most cases I’ve seen no/low-code is introduced when IT can no longer service technical debt and won’t deliver any new features within reasonable timeframes (usually a result of decades of underfunding). No „real” developer will be ever fixing no/low-code solutions either because why would they? Are they going to fix something in an alien tech stack? Are they going to implement this functionality properly? No, because they never had resources to do that.

misk@piefed.socialto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•Is this the typical behaviour of fediverse users? Posts in Apple and Nintendo communities immediately get downvoted by people disliking the companies. Can’t they just block the communities?English5·9 days agoAvoid „default” communities and instances, they tend to bring the worst of Reddit to Threadiverse. It’s slightly less of an issue if you stick to places that try to be different. You won’t avoid drive-by downvotes from /all but I don’t think it’s that much of an issue (there’s just too much crap there for anyone to browse it by time of posting).
misk@piefed.socialto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•Is this the typical behaviour of fediverse users? Posts in Apple and Nintendo communities immediately get downvoted by people disliking the companies. Can’t they just block the communities?English61·9 days agoIf we’re using votes to rank content then downvotes are redundant because now you have to upvote „right” stuff and downvote „wrong” stuff. Assuming everyone is waging the same kind of information warfare then downvotes won’t anything… but we’re not. Those that downvote willy nilly just want to have more say in things than others who don’t have energy to religiously clean website from „wrong” content. You’re not responsible for safeguarding users from „wrong” content unless you’re reporting rule breaking one. If you don’t like what’s being said but it doesn’t break rules then reply and explain why is it wrong, let others upvote if they agree.
Tildes solved this already. They have regular upvotes and they have labels for offtopic/noise/malice. Being able to use labels is reserved to users with good standing and can be applied once only. Noise downranks things without removing them, malice is essentially same as reporting them. Notably, there is no label for „wrong”.

It’s more like stereotypical basement dwellers treat this like a game where you win by accumulating more imaginary internet points. This kind of tribal behaviour is why threadiverse seems to be failing but at least some people get to feel superior to others in the meantime.
misk@piefed.socialto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•There Are Some Unique Instance RulesEnglish112·12 days agoADL thrives in a politically polarised landscape where their interests intersect traditional conservatism/liberalism axis. If Pepe is divisive because of an international conspiracy then that’s a done deal already anyway - in this polarised society fascists took it as their heraldic emblem just to spite the libs. If someone decides to self-label with Pepe in today’s world then feigning ignorance isn’t a very convincing excuse to me anymore.
misk@piefed.socialto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•There Are Some Unique Instance RulesEnglish719·12 days agoPepe is a commonly used far right dog whistle. Attacking this rule by associating it with zionist far right seems malicious. You sure you’re on the right side of this mate?

I would definitely not make that kind of judgment about the entire instance. That mod should have listed it in the rules if unsubstantiated speculation is forbidden but there are no rules listed so I lean toward CLM. Liberals are easily triggered these days.

misk@piefed.socialOPto Games@sh.itjust.works•It’s 2025, Why Are We Still Getting Multiplayer Games Without Crossplay?English74·22 days agoIt sounds like you take more of an issue with existence of aim assist rather how it is balanced in particular games. Crossplay is beneficial because it increases the player pool, game longevity and (to the best of my knowledge) is usually optional, no? One would assume that aim assist is tuned to provide a fair challenge to users with different input devices and that in an actual competitive setting that wouldn’t be of any relevance anyway.
misk@piefed.socialOPto Games@sh.itjust.works•It’s 2025, Why Are We Still Getting Multiplayer Games Without Crossplay?English66·22 days agoI’m glad I don’t play games to earn respect of others, what a miserable way to have fun.
misk@piefed.socialto Science@mander.xyz•The hidden mental health danger in today’s high-THC cannabisEnglish4·22 days agoTruth isn’t different between serious and casual discussion and this is a serious topic.
If you want to cite a scientific paper then do it yourself and don’t ask others to fish them out of blogs you link to because too many times I’ve seen none included and nobody got time for that on a casual forum.
As to actual sources, I assumed I wouldn’t have to make as much of a strong point when talking about something that’s pretty much a scientific consensus. Where I live doctors won’t prescribe you medicinal weed if you’re under 25 usually too.
Going by casual wisdom, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence so I would expect the burden to be on the ones claiming that what I’m saying is bs but I guess it’s on me to bring back some reason here.

- Age-related differences in the impact of cannabis use on the brain and cognition: a systematic review

misk@piefed.socialto Science@mander.xyz•The hidden mental health danger in today’s high-THC cannabisEnglish6·22 days agoI’d rather add meta-comment in an effort to preserve quality of discussion. I’m seeing this everywhere - making a point by linking to a blog pretending to be a scientific paper. It has about as much value as a comment by anyone here. If I understand correctly it’s an attempt to add some kind of authority to your opinion but it’s just harmful to the way establishing truth works.
misk@piefed.socialto Science@mander.xyz•The hidden mental health danger in today’s high-THC cannabisEnglish44·23 days agoPlease stop using blog posts pretending to be scientific research.
misk@piefed.socialto Science@mander.xyz•The hidden mental health danger in today’s high-THC cannabisEnglish44·23 days agoWhere are you getting your numbers on % of population at risk of psychosis and schizophrenia to call them unknown small sliver? Cannabis being harmful to people under 25 is well studied. Most neurodivergent folk are at risk and both things compound enough so that having this kind of legal age just make sense.
I consume plenty of weed myself but I’m for responsible and controlled use. I’m glad to piss off liberals and conservatives alike since I’m a leftie.
misk@piefed.socialto Science@mander.xyz•The hidden mental health danger in today’s high-THC cannabisEnglish68·23 days agoSome of us are more prone to mental health issues. Cannabis is a strong trigger. It is possible to go through life without triggers. THC is not something you need in your life unless prescribed for specific conditions.
I’m all for full legalisation but legal age for most substances should be simply higher because it’s way too risky and damaging before your brain fully develops, as evidenced by the this paper.
I have inherited and also created and passed on many of those Excel files in my professional life. They get a bad rep but they’re also as bad as everyone says.
