  • Completely understandable, and I’m not really a fan of AI art either. IMO the best use cases of A"I", really statistical learning, are for technical problems that come with data. (We should reject the marketing that these systems are intelligent in any meaningful capacity, especially when they are useful. And we must acknowledge that we are overloading the term “learning”, i.e. statistical learning says nothing about the learning by people and animals it is inspired by.) But at the time that this community really took off, we didn’t really have the community members to draw it. (This account is under a year old, but my SDF account is over 2 years old (if SDF ever gets their hard drive space 😆), and I had a VLemmy account that I made during the R*ddit API closure.) At least, to the best of my recollection, no one volunteered to do it.

I would definitely support replacing the banner with a human-made banner if we can all decide on one.

  • Just because it happened in the past doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea. Actually, the appeal to nature “argument” against borders does, IMO, provide evidence that the conclusion (borders are evil and should be dispensed with) holds, but it is not an argument in itself.

IMO a better argument is the reality of the misery and oppression that borders create: they cage humanity and the ecology and thus limit our potential, and they only serve to benefit the local capitalists, and proletarians pay the price in blood and tears for those who try to assert their right to move. And then to this, we append the positive examples from nature as empirical evidence that suggests the conclusion, with the caveat that just because something is natural does not mean it is optimal or good.

  • Nah I think some comrades thought that based on the title, Jessie is literally saying that anti-fascist activism is for fools. Which they are explicitly not saying lol, like they literally say that we need to fight fascists around the midpoint, but I suspect they picked that title to rope in liberals who do think that. This is about “leftist” media not actually telling stories about alternative ways of living. E.g., Star Wars has a relatively sympathetic portrayal of revolutionaries, but in the Disney movies, the rebels basically just fight for, and ultimately go back to l, the same liberal democracy that allowed fascism to develop, with predictable results in the Disney trilogy.
