I think they underestimated how dramatic this community can be. Which is surprising considering the map size whining that happened.

Honestly of the 4 major dystopias, I gotta say this one might be my least favorite. The themes are a little too on the nose, and kinda simplistic (the book is basically 200 pages of convincing the reader that TV bad, books good).

Also, it seems like everyone really misses the point of this book. This book is not about censorship. This book is about anti-intellectualism. The important part isn’t that the books are being burnt, it’s about why they’re being burnt, and who is doing the burning. The censorship is just a plot device to show the values society is trying to impart on itself. 1984 is a better example of a dystopia about true censorship.

Nonetheless, I still think it’s an important book, and an incredibly easy read. It can be knocked out in an afternoon by a middle schooler no problem.

Lovecraft is awesome if you want some short stories. Call of Cthulhu, Colour out of Space, and Rats in the Walls area my personal favorites.

Only a matter of time before striking becomes illegal. Nothing is going to happen unless a general strike happens among all industries.

Nothing David Day writes should be given any credibility. He made stuff up, like, all the time. Treat it as fan fiction.

What’s hilarious is conservatives absolutely hate Strongtowns too, and pretty much all their policy goals are the opposite of the goal of ST. Even though Chuck Morohn is deeply conservative, he can’t really face that truth.

Actually I think I’m the opposite. I hate encumbrance more when it’s massive. When I played survival mode in Fallout NV, I found it so much more fun to only pick up essential items. I would commonly pick up water bottles and food instead of valuable weapons or ammo. I was usually way under my low encumbrance because I had a mindset switch to only pick up stuff that will allow me to survive the desert.

It is when you start assuming non-bigots are bad people because of what they look like.

Monopoly can actually be a pretty quick game if you play by the rules. Which literally nobody does.

I have the Leaf 2 and would highly recommend. Works great, and is much better for your eyes. I use it every day.

I’ve probably seen LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring at least 20-30 times. I’m guessing 15 or so for two towers, and 10 for ROTK.

But FOTR is the perfect movie and I could watch it again and again on repeat if I had to.

The distinction between socialism and communism gets a little silly imo. Some people claim that communism is a stateless society, and that countries like the Soviet Union practiced socialism, which is just a stepping stone towards communism. You seem to be implying the opposite. Either way, there’s like a million different things you could call these ideologies (state-socialism, market socialism, democratic-socialism, communism, anarcho-communism, Stalinism, etc)

Ultimately, I just want workers to own the means of production in my city, whatever you want to call that.

All the problems we have in current cities are problems we choose to have.
