Even at this late date, if you asked Trump to point to the Strait of Hormuz on a map, he’d probably poke the person holding it up in the eye. His only concern is that gas pricing are going up and USans are mad at him about it. If Iranian negotiators offered to let him build a hotel and golf course near Tehran, he’d agree to everything else.

The neat part here is that the energy shock hasn’t actually hit yet because tankers move at around the speed of a bicycle. The ones that left before the strait was closed are still on route. When the oil and gas they carry is gone and the next shipment fails to arrive is when real fun starts at the pump.

Negotiators are having a working dinner, one of the people said, which will be followed by technical discussions on Saturday night.

Hopefully they employ some blunt messaging, since USians tend to think bullying, wheedling, begging , and hoping are the way to accomplish anything.

Some weirdos also seem to think that threatening genocide against Iran is a legitimate business tactic for negotiation (if you are wondering where I found these strange people, I found them in a Dave Rubin video on YouTube): no joke.

Yeah but that sort of thing falls a bit outside of what people might consider “bullying” (and more in line with what the average person would consider a war crime).
