I mean, I understand that they are all part of the Fediverse, but aside from esthetics, are the same in the end? Are they all connected? I don’t seem to see other kbin communities in the “All” tab…
So lemmy and kbin are two “apps” or “codebases”. They each have their own “instances” which are essentially copies of websites.
For example, with kbin we have kbin.social and fedia.io, these both run the “kbin” code, but are different websites.
Lemmy is a different app/codebase, and they have their own sites: lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, etc. they run the “lemmy” code, but are different websites.
Lemmy and Kbin are both on the “fediverse” which is a collection of websites that all talk to each other. For example, people on kbin.social website can talk to people on lemmy.ml or lemmy.world.
Beehaw is an “instance” of lemmy, similar to how lemmy.ml and lemmy.world are.
Think of it like email. Gmail and yahoo are both different email websites, but you can email a yahoo address from gmail and vice versa.
The “aesthetics” or ui is different. but also which “instances” are connected. some websites may not like certain other websites. they also might have their own rules.
In theory, they are all connected, yes. I can see you are on lemmy.world and I am on kbin.social. The syncing between the various sites here on kbin has been a bit messed up for the past few days which may be why you’re struggling to see kbin communities.
