If you’re considering leaving Reddit, consider also salting the earth on your way out!

Check out PowerDeleteSuite, a plugin that can edit/delete posts in a user’s history. https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite

Just follow the install instructions on the page and let it rip. You can act on or exempt specific subs, act on age, exempt by status, etc. It will also export deleted and modified comments to a CSV for your own use.

I nuked my accounts, editing most comments to “This comment has been removed in protest of the Reddit API changes of June 2023. Consider visiting https://monero.town for a privacy preserving alternative to Reddit.”

      The Rexidus

Is this actually what the historians will call it?

I’m not sure deleting your history is a good idea. Reddit posts and comments form a vast amount of valuable knowledge built over these 9 years. if everyone does this, that collection of knowledge will be lost.

That’s why I was debating really hard if I should really do it. In the end, I don’t want to provide reddit with content anymore. There was an unspoken agreement that they provide infrastructure and the users provide content and moderation which reddit can in turn capitalize off. If they now want to double-dip and monetize me, the user, by forcing me onto their shitty app full of ads, this agreement is broken and I’ll leave, together with my content. That’s how I view it, I hope it makes at least a little bit of sense.

it makes total sense, but I hope it’s clear that it also has a price (loss of publicly accessible knowledge) that both all of us and future generations of Monero users will pay. is there a way to archive all of r/monero and host it somewhere in a searchable form? that would make it more worth it.

Yeah the lost knowledge is very bitter. I hope that by now it’s probably already in some LLM training dataset. I believe you’d have to scrape the data.
