    Short of lighting myself on fire how does someone without any disposable income to speak of help stop this? Ive been writing my reps since the violent ‘evictions’ in sheikh jarrah, but they do nothing but give me boiler plate responses and their voting records show they still support carte blanche for the IDF. Almost on four years now and we just let them do more and more genocide. What kind of democracy doesn’t allow their voters to change their states direction on genocide?

      As someone who has thought about this a lot, here’s what I try to do myself.

      First, let’s reconcile some things. On one hand, you have a sense of powerlessness, and it’s not an illusion. However on the other, I think there is a real and valid sense among many that Israel’s situation has changed in fundamental ways that cannot be undone. And it seems realistic that the current order will fall in our lifetimes. So then how do you and I act to hasten that?

      First (and really second, third, and fourth), we must bear witness. We must continue to read these articles and learn about this situation well enough to try and explain it to others. Save articles by Palestinians to use to lift up their voices when opportunities arise.

      At this point, it helps to reflect on a certain model of persuasion I like. Our goals are not to convince someone who opposes us to join our side. It’s to move people along a ladder. You want to find people who already agree with you but are passive, and activate them to do the things you’re already doing. You want to convince people who are neutral to agree with you, passively. You want to convince people who are passively opposed to become neutral. And you want to convince people who are actively opposed to lose their conviction and become passive in their opposition.

      This has been happening for a long time, and it’s begun to accelerate in the last year. Learn and share knowledge. I don’t mean facts: I mean listen to people and slip them time-bomb ideas tailored to where they are that will move them on the ladder the next time they read a headline that you’ve primed them to look at with new eyes.

      Second: I think it’s very likely that major turning points will be accompanied by mass actions. Protests don’t do anything … until suddenly they do. Be a member of a group – DSA, JVP, PYM, etc. – to make sure that when people march, you’ll get the call.

      That’s pretty much what I have now. That and conversations like this one.

      Third, I try to make sure I’m visible in my politics. I wear a kippah, and I have a Palestinian flag pin on it. I’ve found that this lets fellow Jews who’ve felt silenced know that I’m safe to talk to about this, and quietly lets Muslim neighbors know I’m with them. I have a drawstring bag with a pro-Palestine message I often carry. If useful to you, consider signaling politely where you stand to let others know.

      And lastly: keep the faith. That ladder I mentioned? Zionists are trying to do all this to you too. There are people who want to exhaust you and demoralize you. Take breaks if needed. Don’t burn out. Do what you must to stay active for the long haul.

        I’d like to add that economic pressure is useful too. Try to boycott companies that support genocide. Individually it isn’t much but if you follow Andrew’s guidelines then you will hopefully influence others to do the same.

        So you’re encouraging people to commit violence based solely on some shit they’ve seen on the internet?

        What makes you any different than any other nutjob that does some crazy shit because “they did their own research” on the internet?

        You aren’t going to have an impact on the violence that’s happening on the other side of the world by doing violence in your own country. Get some perspective. You’re saying that people should bring an end to violence by using violence. How does that make any damn sense?

      Maybe you can host a community meeting to meet people in your area that feel the same as you? Or you can protest somewhere? Or set up a table in a public space to discuss or debate with other people?

      Find a group that share your views. When in group you are safer and impactful. Check in your country what groups are advocating for peace.

      If your time is limited, then see option of donations to those who have time to advocate in your behalf and see how much of that you can deduct from your taxes.

      Sad to say a few people have already set themselves on fire over this and it was quickly glossed over and forgotten, so even your extreme example isn’t guaranteed to do anything.

      You’ve had a couple good replies that answer your question, just thought this was worth pointing out.

      Israel is an ultranationalist power which has lost its democracy and is now waging an offensive war for the purposes of territorial gain and ethnic cleansing.

      In a word, they are Nazis.

      Ask yourself: how did we eradicate the Nazi scourge? Then do that.

    Watch Biden repeat IDF propaganda again. Then ignore it when evidence comes out disproving it.

    • Seems to me that he’s trying to do the right thing, as per https://www.aa.com.tr/en/world/us-to-demand-access-to-israels-investigation-of-slain-turkish-american-activist/3331943?amp=1 he’s pushing for more access to the investigation - likely to prevent the IDF from covering it up (and based on the timing this started after reports came in contradicting the IDF’s line).

      It’s difficult to understand, but I can see why hasn’t spoken out about it publicly yet - on the one-in-a-million off chance that it turns out the IDF was right about it being an accident all along (yeah right), he doesn’t want to have to apologize to them (and really can you blame anyone for not wanting to apologize to the IDF?).

      A silver lining, we can view the US folks who gain access and review as being more independent than the IDF themselves.
