  • Yes, but again, he didn’t know it was a dogwhistle

Also, the sun came up this morning. And experts say it will likely happen again tomorrow…

He wasn’t aware of it, became aware of it, so he apologized and removed the video.

That doesn’t invalidate his original message and doesn’t need to keep being rehashed.

We can just move on instead of constantly repeating true things, but if that’s what we’re doing let’s look at the silver lining at least and talk about how the planet hasn’t literally plunged into eternal darkness yet.

  • Last week, the 64-year-old apologised after it emerged he had reposted a pro-Palestine video on social media that criticised Zionism and included an illustration of a rat.

A rat is an antisemitic trope that was used in Nazi Germany to characterise Jews as vermin. Lineker said in a statement that he would “never knowingly share anything antisemitic” and had deleted the post “as soon as I became aware of the issue”.

So first off, fuck Bibi and his genocide.

But yeah. Representing the Jewish people with a rat isn’t something we should be doing due to historical connotations.

  • In the US, not working was the top reason for a higher amount of loneliness among middle-aged adults, while in other countries it resulted in more loneliness among older adults.

    I mean… This is America…

It cost money to do pretty much anything, if you don’t work then our “safety nets” don’t give you enough to live.

Hell, 60% of Americans don’t make enough to live. And unemployment isn’t up to 60% yet.

If every social interaction includes some kind of price tag, the majority of Americans can’t afford to pay it, no wonder people are lonely

  • It depends on what version of Lemmy your instance is using.

The larger the instance the more versions they’re likely behind as they wait for the worst bugs to be fixed first. So you’re probably going to get different answers from different people.

But blocking an instance should prevent you from seeing posts on that instance, but you’d still see posts and comments made by users of that instance, on another instance.

Like, I’ve blocked your instance due to how your main admin moderates, so if you had made this post there, I wouldn’t have seen it. But since you posted to lemmy.ca, I saw it.

My instance was on a version where I wouldn’t get reply notifications from a user of an instance I’d blocked, but that seems to have changed recently as I’ve gotten notifications recently.

I’m not sure how far behind your instance is from the developers instance: lemmy.ml. So I’m not sure how they handle reply notifications.
