I noticed I wasn’t able to find my community on your communities search, because no one on your instance has searched it yet. I’d appreciate if someone could give my instance a search just to federate it on your instance :) And of course, sub if you’re interested in cinematography, movies, behind the scenes, etc.

If you happen to be a 1st Assistant Camera in the film industry, I’ve also made a community for us focus pullers (but all camera department are welcome)

Thanks for reading :)

I’ve thought about it, but I’m curious, is there really any downside to being on another instance? Since federation just makes it all like one community.

Some people say that your instance doesn’t matter, but I wouldn’t want my username to be affiliated with something I’m not aligned with.

For example, I wouldn’t want my username to be @phloatingman@somehategroupinstance.com

Having yourusername@instance.com acts like an advertisement for that particular instance wherever you comment on the fediverse.

So if you had @ShallowFocus@lemmy.film , a reader right off the bat would see that you’re into film and might want to check out the other communities on that specialized instance.

Whereas @ShallowFocus@lemmy.world it might not be as evident. They might think you’re into photography instead since lemmy.world is more of a general purpose instance.
