this title is an out right lie. to be fair, the title doesnt actually say the backlash is because of ai but it heavily hints at it. which is not true.

its surprising because the actual text of the article goes into the actual reasons why the initiative is on hold. (not blocked). including CUDA was a bug issue.

ok, yes lora is just text but i was more using the “why” you are communicating. its actually better than walkie talkies because it keeps trying to get you message across. i used walkie talkie in my analogy because that’s what we used to communicate out in the middle of nowhere.

when i said chatty, i meant that nodes will broadcast messages all over the place. it can cause congestion. meshcore has defined roles and can manage message traffic better. so it doesnt get congested like that.

i admit than posting silly analogies in a very public forum made up of different people was a bad idea. i’ll explain because its very close to meshcore.

in the show person of interest, the later season had a drug dealer have his own cell network so his calls couldnt be intercepted. the goid guys used it because an evil ai was trying to find them. in the show they setup repeaters on roof tops to increase the network size. so the network topology is the similar.

i answered above. the biggest problem is meshtastic is very chatty and not good for established networks but great for adhoc

hiking. two groups, two nodes, no real perm network. meshtastic is better for that adhock. meshcore ia better for any planned system.

exactly. its not an all or nothing. take software development. i never thought vibe coding wpuld becanything but some non-coder putting something together for use on thrir personsal machine. it blows my mind when developers want to use that involvement for work. on thr flip side, let ai generate unit tests. the are tedious and boring. me reviewing unit tests is a lot easier than writing all of them out.

What you are referencing is a project using other projects. You very much can take a function use it. Its when what you take starts to resemble the whole that it becomes a problem. But if you see a project and say “hey i like how they store files in this collection.”, you can use that. Now if you are making a kernel and rip out code tlthat resembles a kernel then no.

You hit the framing issue right on the head. People keep using code and project interchangeably. Code has never been able to be copyrighted. You cant copyright a for loop. I cant create a car class that has properties like make, model, year and copywrite it. Thats never been a thing. Thats why projects are copyrighted. An entire piece of work.

Now your Ship of Theseus has a debateable point. If every single line of code is ai written, does it become an ai project. I woild argue not because of himan involvement to get it there. I also dont see it happening. Not every line of code is replaced. But if it was, that would be a court challenge.
