that book about the alt-right, “kill all normies” was published around 2016 or 2017 iirc, so i assume they’ve been using that word p heavily for at least around a decade.

the medieval period may have been brutal in europe, but next door, the islamic golden age was happening at that time, involving huge advances & development in medicine, mathematics, philosophy, art, etc between the 8th and 14th/15th centuries.

yeah, that’s the point of the post. it’s clearly unethical, and yet, capitalism continues.

both questions are concerned with self and society in general.

the first question puts survival up for debate, and the second question puts capitalism up for debate.

i’d say that most of us know the answers to both questions, but only ever asking the first question & never the second, helps people to form the idea that capitalism is just how things always have to be, and that it could/should never be changed.

“housing first” initiatives end up saving governments money in the long run, because people in stable situations require fewer supports, are healthier physically & mentally, have the bandwidth for pastimes & participating in their communities, etc etc.

(if i didn’t know any better, i might think having an unhoused population is an intentional policy choice to threaten people with & to keep capitalism going. because if people just started building & providing housing to one another for free, like they used to before planning permission & other red tape, our local communities might start to be too independent & self-sufficient to keep centi-billionaires quite as rich, oh no! 😱)

most of the people in question were slrpnk.net users, so it makes sense why we’d be against something that’s so electricity- and water-hungry while providing very little of use (meanwhile i’m fine with locally-hosted analytical AI that’s doing stuff like analysing scans for cancer, for example)

but weirdly, the bans all got labelled as stuff like “anti-AI neoliberal”, even though neoliberals are totally fine with corporate-owned genAI being added needlessly to every service 🤷

• britain occupying palestine during world war 1,

• more europeans & USians of european descent occupying the area after world war 2, and

• funding of that occupation by europeans & USians of european descent to this day.
