The whole Page doesn’t Sound very convincing. Advertising your product with RoHS and REACH compliance when you are legally obligated to fullfill these regulations.

Also “handcrafted cables”: What do you mean? You make each cable by Hand? That would be ridiculous and incredibly ineffective. Look at companies like LAPP Kabel who also operate in Germany to see how its done propperly.

It looks to me like someone is trying to ride the wave of EU alternatives and sustainability, but doesn’t actually have a suitable product.

I see this mostly as pre-work for supporting the Steam machine. But nevertheless it is a Big Deal for the Handheld Market because now SteamOS now becomes an even better option for most of the Handhelds available. Maybe some manufacturers might even think about shipping their devices with SteamOS.

Me personally I am very happy with the Lenovo Legion Go S on Steam OS (just bought the Windows version and replaced it with Steam OS). With the better support we can feal more comfortable to recommend SteamOS for users of other devices.

Even for M1 MacBooks Asahi does not support things like Thunderbolt, DP Alt Mode, Fingerprint Reader, etc. Also Power management is still a problem because Apple doing things differently then other ARM devices. https://asahilinux.org/docs/platform/feature-support/m1/

If I am Buying a 2000€+ Laptop I want everything to work. Not flawlessly, but at least working. And Asahi is not there. That’s what I mean with “not suitable as a daily driver”. If this is good enough for someone, thats fine. I am happy for them and they should enjoy their device. But most other people buying such laptops would not be happy.

As long as Asahi does not support the M5 this is not an option. And since it will always be lacking behind due to the need of reverse engineering everything it is not a suitable daily Driver. But it is a cool project nevertheless.

That’s an interesting fix. But as someone mentioned in the comments in phoronix the question still is: Will GNOME 50 also allow to pin a certain application to a specifc GPU. But never the less: improvement is improvement.

Laptop OEMs seem to go with fingerprint readers that have no Linux support.

This was also such a big downer for me on my Lenovo Yoga 370. I could not (for gods sake) get the fingerprint reader to work because it was missing key material that was baked into the Windows Driver but required to communicate with the Fingerprint Reader Hardware.

I know that it is not uncommon. I just don’t understand why people are doing it. In my opinion/experience you are fine by just wearing socks (maybe thicker ones if you want it to be extra comfy).

I get the point with the wet bathroom floor. But these textile slippers would not solve the problem. They would get soaked.

Actually supporting HDMI-CEC is such a big thing because it makes it the perfect HTPC machine for Libreelec. No more need for separate remote to control your 4k HDR media player!

For example I would expect them to have a keyserver hosting the public Keys of their customers and making sure that only the real customer is able to update his public Key. So nobody else can publish a public key for a given E-Mail without being the owner of the E-Mail.

An ideal implementation could be Web Key Directory (short WKD).

I did a quick search if mailbox.org supports WKD. It looks like mailbox.org Guard somehow supports it, but I never tried it. So maybe it is worth having a look at that.

For me the overall handling was bad in their frontend if you just wanted to use it for specific mails. If you wanted to encrypt your whole inbox it was working just fine. But then you had no possibility to decrypt the mails in their frontend and relied on using 3rd party browser extensions.

And you had no way to bind the public key to your account and make it accessible for everyone publicly.

I am using it since like 5 years (?) and had no major problems with it. Only downsides where the ugly implementation of 2FA at the beginning and the bad support for e-mail encryption/signing.

Yep, I also prefer sticking to my email-provider providing me this kind of service instead of a 3rd party one.

For me personally there is not much use in these changes. I only access it through Thunderbird or K9-Mail. I would prefer if they would ease the creation of temporary Mails instead of hiding it in the settings.

Also I need to try out the New 2FA Integration instead of the strange pin+otp login method.
