It can make phone calls and run android apps. Is that enough ?
I mean, it is, if you don’t have admin you can’t install root-level malware directly (still can if the malware uses some bug to gain privilege). But I still fully agree with your point, I just wanted to say that technically, having root is dangerous in the sense that you can do anything. Most end users have no reason to modify system files etc. Since they only use a web browser and word.
How could the word generating machine, generate words ? Frankly I am disgruntled. Flabbergasted.
I mean, whatever speed java has or doesn’t have, what the other person said was emulate, you’ll have your os then on top of that the JVM then on top of that your python implementation, then finally the python code. If that’s faster than os->python imp…
How is log4j related to what they said ? /genuine
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t eww supposed to run alongside a window manager ? I don’t see anything else on that screen, can you even switch tabs or anything ?
Can you share that firefox startpage image ?
It is an ad.
It’s always “us vs them” huh. I’ll wager you don’t know anything about AI
I felt anger reading this. I think I just scrolled past it on reddit but lord almighty is it annoying
The windows cavalerie has arrived I see
Where does it say that in the article ? I wholeheartedly believe “”“meta”'" would do that, but I didn’t see it mentionned here.
Trickle up economics
Not going against Gnome here, but against your last sentence.
As long as they give the user the ability to opt out/in, what’s the harm in introducing it?
Pretty sure systemd did this with a lot of things and started removing things they just didn’t like. Can’t find the website I wanted to link, but it included a lot of reasons why systemd isn’t good (for example, binary logging. Why ?) “You can always opt out” doesn’t work in the real world ; people don’t care enough to switch. Why do you think google is the biggest search engine ? Mainly because it’s the default everywhere.
In this context I guess it doesn’t matter (and I couldn’t see myself using gnome, even if it has some good polish), it’s just that “you can always opt out” leaves a bad taste on my tongue.
Did you read the comment
Both. It’s percents.
Cambridge analytica manipulating facebook users via ads, influencing elections
By saying you don’t care about your privacy, you’re willingly ignoring any downsides. You’re saying that you, or a close one, will never do anything your government might disagree with, even in the future. Governments change, people can be in charge you never thought should be, and some people might not like what you do, whatever that could be. (I’m having a hard time explaining this one, words don’t come easily rn, see edward snowden “Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide, is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.”)
By contributing your data, you’re helping other, less “fun” countries discriminate against people. It’s really easy to guess using algorithms if someone is gay, had premarital sex, etc. And some people don’t like some others based on that, and would rather they were dead.
