5·1 year agoIt’s fine, but I don’t enjoy having to deal with federation stuff. It’s doable, but it’s not intuitive, and everything is a bit too disorganized.

Any Beehawians (Beehawans? Cowbees?) looking for a Twitter replacement might consider Counter.Social - it has a similar vibe to Beehaw and Tildes. It is not federated but is using a lot of Mastodon code. The community sets it apart - and the owner’s insistence on no ads, no algo, security, privacy, etc.
It’s been around a few years and the infrastructure was upgraded with the last bit Twitter exodus, so CoSo remains stable where Bluesky and some others have been screwy. You can find me there with the same username - say hi if you pop in!

Honestly: Smoke weed. It helps chill me out.
My favorite is to smoke in the back yard with a little fire in my Solo Stove going. Preferably with marshmallows. I can zone out for hours out there. I live in town, but there is greenery along most of my fence, so it *feels *secluded even if it really isn’t. My neighbors have a new fountain they put in a little pond in their front yard, too, so I get to hear the water :)

Yeah - it can be done safely. That’s way too much effort for me, lol :) I’ll stick to my low-tech doorbells and stuff.

Anywhere “smart” objects are, surveillance can also be. I’ve read 1984 enough times to know I don’t want a telescreen on every available surface.
0·1 year agoI live in a town with a small liberal arts university and a lot of retirement homes. This gives it a really interesting vibe - generally artsy and relaxed. Most of the time, anyway.
My favorite thing the town does is our annual chalk art festival! I don’t create art, but I like walking around and seeing what other folks created.
