1·1 year agoSome of the skill might be transferrable. My sister has been on iPhone for years and gets 120 wpm on monkeytype with predictive text on. For comparison, she gets 110 on a normal chiclet keyboard.

Keep in mind thermostats are generally not tightly calibrated devices. I prefer 71°F at home, but recently visited relatives and thought their mini-split was FREEZING at 29°C (84 F)
Also humidity plays a huge role.

Loss of precision. Most digital thermostats only display two digits for cost savings. I’ve had experiences with mini-splits that are too cold at 27 and too hot at 28.
it’s deliberate. Tim Cook and team have essentially said “yeah we know it sucks but we’re keeping it this way for business reasons”. Can’t find a quote but just look at how they treat literally anything non-Apple.

Alec is making a point specifically about the 1000 hour maximum which was for INCANDESCENT lightbulbs. You know, the ones that aren’t used anymore.
However, modern LED lightbulbs are typically over-driven and under-cooled. This drastically shortens their lifespan and worsens efficiency. But this might just be because it’s harder to sell a $20 light that lasts for 20 years than it is to sell a $5 light that lasts for 5-10.
