In all seriousness, if it ever gets out of uncanny valley, then yeah that’s a major transparency issue. The problem at that point becomes, even with laws in place to prevent it, who’s to say those will actually be followed? It’ll cause the same issues that deepfakes are causing now, but off-screen in real time. That would have crazy-bad implications for politics, security, social engineering, market manipulation…

In a work environment, best response is to ask things like “why?” “What do you mean?” Etc and let them either dig a hole that you can bring to HR; or come to the realization that their derogatory mindset actually feels really dirty when they spell it out, and drop it on their own.

Pretty much every workplace in the US has a policy against talking politics… and pretty much no one actually adheres to that policy.

Block or Highlight Search Engine Results is my personal recommendation. Whichever SE you use, when you see a result that’s AI slop or a garbage website like Forbes, just add bullshit.com to the filter, set to hide, and you’ll never see that trash in a search result ever again.

Be diligent about it for a good week or so, and your search result quality will absolutely explode, whether your using Google, DDG, or several others.

Just wanted to follow up - did the presentation a few days ago. Went great, and I got the reaction I was hoping for from the audience. I saw some combination of shock, anger, horror, and most importantly compassion on just about every face infront of me (class of about 70 people).

Wrapped it up by hitting them with a quick spiel on “If you think this needs to change - or stay as is - that’s up to you: submit your answer into the ballot box on November 5th.”

No idea if I spurred any into action any who weren’t already planning on voting, but there was definitely some energy in the room. That went about as well as I could have hoped!

I mean, hopefully. There are people that have driven drunk many times and been fine, but it only takes one incident to bring that trend to an immediate halt.

We have no way to tell if conditions will stabilize within the surviveability window of any specific critter. Nor can we claim all life will for sure be fucked - point is we don’t know.

I don’t expect it will get that bad; it’s just within the realm of possibility. We can’t predict shit with any certainty.

We only know of one rock in all existence that’s habitable to humans or literally anything else. Relative to humans, yeah life finds a way cuz it’s a lot more resilient than us; relative to the kinds of extremes the universe of capable of producing, life is SUPER fragile.

The problem is that legal jargon and medical jargon are very different animals. The legal is deliberately ambiguous, and the medical is hyper-specific… so doctors are left scratching their heads about things like “is the white blood cell count high enough for a lawyer to call this life threatening?” “Is the blood pressure low enough?” meanwhile the mother waits and dies.

“During a medical emergency” or “life threatening” are copouts that don’t actually mean shit, and no doctor is going to risk going to prison to find out.
