We made some ether in my HS chemistry lab for a lab exercise, and I was goofing around pretending to inhale it but accidentally did get some in, and I got a loopy dizzy feeling for a minute or two.

4·2 months agoI don’t think that $11M yacht in the video is the one the article is about. The pics of the solar yacht in the article are completely different and it’s named differently, and the builder man said you don’t need millions to build it. Athena Too = $11M and Helios 11 = $??

What yer sposed to do is prune whole limbs at their bases (or start of fork if trimming a forked limb), to trim these back when needed. Amputating the limbs in the middle causes lots of little sprout limbs to come out of the stump, and makes it look shitty.

Tech@programming.dev•AI company Vercel loses hundreds of developers after CEO posts about meeting with NetanyahuEnglish
341·4 months agoIt’s also probably partly due to religious brainwashing. Many of the so-called Christians in the USA have this worship of Israel thing that they use to ignore the genocide or justify it. Israel is always the good guy no matter what, to these people. Because God said so. Somehow they conveniently forget all the teachings of Jesus about compassion, forgiveness, helping people etc.

And Finally...@feddit.uk•Oklahoma’s big “TV nudes” scandal was… a Jackie Chan movie on a Samsung streaming serviceEnglish
2·4 months agoThere is a surprising amount of gratuitous nudity in “The Protector” but when I saw it on the Whatever cheap streaming app they had unfortunately blurred out all the tits and other nude lady parts. The movie features classic gangster movie staple actor Danny Aiello whose name you probably wouldn’t remember unless you looked at the credits, and he is in some of the nude lady scenes perving on them. The movie also has some impressive stunts by Jackie Chan & co, but it’s not one of his best in terms of kung fu battles because he plays a “shoot the bad guys” cop in it.

41·5 months agoAnybody else find this kind of thing highly disturbing? Almost sounds like the AI is accidentally sparking up some feelings and spiraling into despair. We can laugh at it now but what happens when something like this happens in an AI weapons system?
I don’t know enough about AI or metaphysical stuff to argue whether a “consciousness” could ever be possible in a machine. I’m worried enough about what we can already see here without going that deep.

45·7 months agoTired same old Internet argument garbage, where every argument is against the worst possible absolute of the Other.
The short answer is “numerous regulations and laws exist” and the long answer is that Capitalism pays the paychecks of everyone who controls basically everything, so it’s not going away, and the best you can do is enact sensible regulations on it. Because you and everyone else don’t have the ability to change any of that really.

14·7 months agoI have to wear bug spray and/or long sleeves going out into the woods, the bugs get all over me and are everywhere all the time. There’s lots of wildlife like squirrels, raccoons, deer, coyotes, lizards, frogs, salamanders, woodchucks, beavers, and more all over the place. Seems pretty good here except for the more intense weather seasons we’ve been getting the last 10 years or so.
If it gets too much warmer or disruptive climate here I may decide to migrate north a couple hundred miles or something. My family and descendants should be able to carry on likewise.

44·7 months agoIMO a lot of the doomer garbage comes from people who are disconnected from nature completely. I think they live in bubbles of digital doomscrolling and never literally touch grass. Because if you get outside of oppressive concrete urban environments and visit the forest you will see nature persisting along just as it always has. And as we are part of nature, we can also persist along with it.
The technology of modern living is also reason for hope. With some effort individuals can live independently without the need for municipal utilities of any kind, and enjoy the freedom that only self-sufficiency can provide. But people seem to be very complacent these days and unwilling try anything that seems hard. Meanwhile we have all the information of the world at our fingertips for easy access to learn how to do anything. We can each accomplish almost anything - with the info on the Internet I have been able to learn and do anything I wanted to do.
