Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Yes, Electric Cars Are Good in Winter, and I Drove in the Arctic to Prove It
9·13 days agoThe 50 km for the in cabin heater is because when I have the temp set in the cabin to 18.5 degrees and fan speed 3, the range said 300km, when I turned it off the range went to 350km so the car is saying I will lose around 50 km of range if I keep the heater on the whole 300km trip.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Yes, Electric Cars Are Good in Winter, and I Drove in the Arctic to Prove It
21·13 days agoI was driving to the burrito store in town yesterday in -8° conditions. I noticed to keep the car at 17° the heater was using 50km of range. My normal 100% charge gives me 360 km of charge but in winter mode where the battery heater is on my max range goes closer to 300km at 100%.
This isn’t really a problem since I only drive to work and back which is 3km each way.

4·1 month agoThe best three things we can do in space are:
-
Space elevator to get things up into space with less resources than all the fuel we currently use. Just need to work out a super strong material to make the cable out of.
-
Solar power stations that send it down wirelessly to earth, they can get power without all the annoying atmosphere in the way, just need to work out how to transmit power wirelessly and safely.
-
A way of collecting all the debris we continue to leave floating around in space and the upper atmosphere that will eventually make it harder to have things not get hit with high speed debris.

Keeping a DD in the room and keeping the partners separate is better for both parties and for your cleaners having to clean up blood.
You can charge the guest for repairs on the door if they break it. The moisture buildup is minimal if there is a central duct with a larger fan pulling air out of the bathrooms at a minimum at all times.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•The Real Reason Dealers Talk You Out of EVs
3·1 month agoThe studded tires themselves were balanced when i bought them and got them installed on rims. I check the tires for inconsistent wear and label them so I know where the were and rotate them accordingly. (The winter tires are unidirectional so I rotate them front to back but not side to side.) The non studded tires I have are also classed as all season but have a mountain symbol so are safe for winter driving as well but I want the studded for any winter highway driving and occasional skihill driving.
If I notice any odd pulling, bad wear patterns or steering issues then I would go in for an actual alignment.
Sorry I didn’t answer in order of how you asked but I store my EV tires in my garage as well as our truck tires. I change both vehicles tires myself, I have a floor jack and an air compressor with air tools as well as a torque wrench for final tightening. I bought the tires on rims with TPS sensors installed and balancing was included in the cost.

101·1 month agoI’ve had my EV for 5 years. I take it in once a year for an update. My brakes are at 80%. They wanted to do a brake line flush but I’ll do it myself because I’m not paying 275 dollars for them to do something I can do myself while I am changing to my winter tires anyways.
There is just so many things that aren’t in EVs to fix compared to the amount of wear and tear parts of ICE cars.

Linux@programming.dev•Have you or someone close to you converted to Linux recently (with Windows 10's end of support)?
2·2 months agoMy computer was crashing constantly, never figured out what it was but I switched over to Linux Mint to see if it was something to do with the software and hardware having an issue since I couldn’t find a hardware only issue.
I liked the environment but was still having crashes. So I upgraded MoBo, GPU, CPU, RAM, PSU, HDD and installed Mint again. It didn’t work out because Mint didn’t have driver support for my newer GPU so I changed over to Nobara and it is very good.
