Lyft disabled scheduling rides through ride.lyft.com, I used that quite a bit but now in forced go use the app. The problem however, is that their app just doesn’t work. It launches, says the Google API is necessary and then continues to close.

Does anyone know of an app that use their API that doesn’t shut itself down without installing Google SDK?

GrapheneOS can usually operate with all those service-type apps apparently

Edit: also banking apps, which are pretty standard in terms of their TPM-need

Same goes for microg, at least in the case of Uber and whatever banking apps.

Uber on microg will fall back to mapbox, though I don’t actually know if it can work in lieu of a play services implementation. Could be that it’s not a hard requirement compared to Lyft

There’s plenty of apps that have that pop up and still work just fine. I think Lyft just decided that they’ll close the app in that case.

I think the popup comes from the sdk itself when the play services are not present.

For what it’s worth, I’ve just given it a quick test with microg.

Opened the app, it seems to be okay, though it’s asking for a phone number to create an account or log in. Do you know if it would fail prior to that point without play services?

from when I would try it it would immediately pop up saying no Google Play Services and then you’d click OK and it would immediately crash without asking for a phone number or anything so it would not stay open for more than about two seconds

Is that because there’s a micro-g-like sdk installed to make it work? Or something else?

My phone fortunately is still very much functional.
