[Announcement] Migrating away from lemmy. - monero.town

Last week this instance decided out of nowhere that it deserves a break and vanished. After multiple attempts of troubleshooting, I was about to put up a static html to announce the move away from “the broken ass lemmy”, when i figured out the real problem (nginx config was changed for some reason and no longer correct). That being said, I still would like to move away from lemmy. At the time of setup, it was the closest to a reddit replacement we had available but by now nostr has matured a lot and it would be in everyones best interest to start building a community on there instead of a federated platform like lemmy on which you lose your entire online presence when the instance goes down. If you have any suggestions on what specific nostr frontend we should host here on monero.town, please feel free to share them! Personally id like to deploy an instance of https://monstr.land/ [https://monstr.land/] but sadly it is currently not FOSS.

Hi @Illecors, do you know why subscribing to lemmy.cafe communities may not work?
I tried to subscribe to this community, and several others, but the server never accepts my requests. This doesn’t happen with other Lemmy servers.

As far as I can tell, my server is not blocked. Upvotes and (hopefully) comments do go through.

Will have a look at the state of your instance in the db. Once I get home.

Yea, it was marked as inactive. Things should start catching up in the next hour or so

Why Monero?

Monero is secure.

Monero can’t be hacked to steal your funds, due to the power of distributed consensus. This means that you are responsible for your own money, and don’t have to trust any entity to keep it safe for you.

Monero is private.

The power of the blockchain usually increases security at the cost of privacy, but with Monero’s sophisticated privacy-centric technology, you get all of the security benefits of the blockchain without any of the privacy trade-offs.

Monero is untraceable.

By taking advantage of ring signatures, Monero makes it ambiguous which funds have been spent, and thus extremely unlikely that a transaction could be linked to any particular user.

Monero is fungible.

Because of its on-by-default privacy technologies, Monero is fungible, which means that one Monero will always be equal to another. This ensures that there will be no discrimination over the origin or history of your coins, lessening the worry of potential blacklisting by exchanges or vendors.
