Yup, it is commonly known as wasp nest slime mold. Definitely the coolest looking slime mold I’ve seen.

What was the size of this, by the way? Hard to get a sense of scale.
I’d say the first photo is about 1’ across and maybe 8" or so for the second.
What camera do you use to get good DOF?
I took all of these with an old Olympus E-M1 mk1 with the 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 lens on macro mode which is 43mm. I took them at f11 with a flash. The close ups on the wasp nest slime mold was taken with the same lens but with 26mm of extension tubes added. Some of the DOF was gained back with post processing.
