In “How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found Again” by Doug Richmond, he suggests that one effective way to disappear is by intoxicating your data. While this approach works, it’s time-consuming, especially if you’re not facing a high-level threat and are mainly concerned with preventing companies from profiting off your personal data.
Are there any tools to automate this process? Ideally, I’m looking for FOSS, not another subscription-based service.
On a larger scale, since so much personal data is already available, could we use that to “intoxicate” it and disrupt its value to companies?
On a smaller, personal level, could this be done voluntarily, something simple I could recommend to family and friends?
I’m passionate about privacy and reducing my online footprint, but it can get overwhelming. Last year, I switched all of my site subscriptions to unique email aliases and deleted half of them, it was intense.
