As most PC gamers will have noticed right away when launching the game, there is no Starfield FOV (Field of View) slider in the game’s settings. This is unfortunate since the default setting appears to be 75, which is lower than preferable, especially for those who experience motion sickness when playing in first-person view.

Thankfully, several mods are already starting to appear on Nexus, including some that allow players to increase the Starfield FOV value. User Hellstorm102 provided a downloadable StarfieldCustom.ini file that needs to be placed in the Documents/MyGames/Starfield folder to enable the increased Field of View. The provided file sets FOV to 100 for both first-person and third-person view, though any user can modify the .ini with different values as desired.

Likely, Bethesda will eventually add an in-game Starfield FOV slider at some point, but mods will have to do in the meantime.

I feel like a game that launches without an FoV adjustment isn’t worth my money, it’s nice that workarounds exist, but it makes me feel like there wasn’t much time put into making the game nice to play.

There’s a number of noticeably absent graphical configuration options in the game. There’s also no brightness/gamma config and one of the earlier scenes is pretty f’n dark.

It’s also unclear if HDR is just broken or fully unsupported on the game on PC.

HDR isn’t present on the pc version for some reason. That said, from what I understand HDR is pretty much broken on console.

I’m playing on a PC which is connected to a 4k HDR OLED tv and the colour is pretty flat and nothing is truly dark/black. There’s lots of colour banding too.

Genuinely surprised with the budget of this game anyone looked at that and thought “yeah, that looks right”.

Fully agree. Noticed the space scenes appearing very dark grey instead of black. Granted I’ve been playing no mans sky recently, and HDR is absolutely busted there but at least space isn’t dark grey.

Is color banding a software or source issue? I get it in some games on my oled TV on ps5 with HDR on. I’ve never not seen it in streaming services, even in 4k. But I never notice it when watching DVDs.

This has been the Bethesda experience for many years. Which doesn’t deter from your statement. Their games are complex as all balls, but apparently investing a day to add an FOV slider is too much.

Seeing as the FOV can be adjusted from ini, that means it’s a setting in engine. Literally just needed to add au UI element to adjust it and they couldn’t be bothered.

As far as I know the only Bethesda game with a fov slider is Fallout 76, which is extremely fortunate because you can’t mod that one.

Seems very weird to me that they’d just drop it again after including it once.
