The sheriff’s department in Portage County, Ohio has been stripped of its election security duties after its MAGA sheriff said people displaying Kamala Harris signs in their yards should have their addresses recorded so illegal immigrants can be sent to their homes.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Donald Trump-supporting Republican seeking re-election, likened migrants to “human locusts” and called Harris a “Flip-Flopping, Laughing Hyena” on his personal and campaign Facebook accounts earlier this month.

The Ohio Secretary of State’s Office determined last week that Zuchowksi’s post didn’t break state election laws, but local citizens expressed their discomfort with having an immigrant-hating MAGA sheriff in charge of protecting the vote.

Over 100 people attended an emergency meeting called by the local NAACP chapter, the *Ravenna Record-Courier *reported. Frank Hairson, the communications chair of the NAACP chapter said people told him: “They’re afraid to vote. They’re afraid to put signs in their yard.”

Why the fuck does he still have a fucking job?!?!?! My god I fucking hate how shit is run in this country. What a joke!

Any one of us would have been fired for FAR less.

Yet here we hate cheering that this piece of shit was slapped on the wrist.

I understand how they’re hired. That’s not in question. What I don’t understand is why he wasn’t fired.

You can’t fire public officials but may be able to impeach them. Don’t doubt it: the majority want this guy.

Depending on the state- a governor has the authority to fire a sheriff. And yes- Ohio’s governor does have this authority.

Ergo…. The asshole should be fired.

Eh, at most you can say a plurality of those who voted when he was elected in 2020 checked the box by his name. We’ll see whether this dipshit gets reelected.

I mean, if you live and work in Ohio, you probably won’t be fired for being an out and proud racist unless it gets picked up by the news. He’s allowed to do this because he’s protected by all the other bigots in his state, and Ohio is full of them.

If I lived near him, I would definitely plant a Kamala sign right in his yard.

I would recommend against that. Based on what I know about him, I believe that you would be shot dead if you approached his property.

This is a man that’s not only prepared for violence; he’s a man looking for a pretense to harm.

editorial suggestion, possible slight correction: he’s a man looking [to manufacture] a pretense to harm. Dad was an attorney and took a wrongful death case against a PD a few towns over. The harassment he and the rest of the firm got just for taking the case wouldn’t end until we paid a couple years of bribes to the local pd via enrolling in the local captain’s karate dojo. the one benefit that came from it is us kids got to learn to recognize all the kinds of police officers and how to manage their expectations in police encounters.

You’d be too terrified to do that because you’d know that people have disappeared in in that area for less.

Sheriffs are typically elected, which is a bit ironic considering the National Sheriff Association adopted a fasces for their symbol in 1932.

Make a point that says, since these maga folks don’t mind having a convicted felon as president, get all addresses voting for this sheriff, including the sheriff himself, to known felons…

Public servants are in service to the public. Good to know parts of the US REPUBLIC haven’t forgotten that. Lest the French request the statue be returned, despite their current domestic circumstances.
