Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

Despite others claiming it will get axed, I really enjoyed Insect Girl over on Manga Plus. I’d recommend checking out that first chapter.

Picked up Turns Out My Dick Was a Cute Girl

It’s so incredibly stupid; I love it.

As mentioned in another comment, if we ever get an anime_no_context community on this instance, this manga would be perfect for it.

I can post screenshots from this and 100GF all day.

I just signed up to Lemmy and this instance. Seeing this post, I am not regretting that decision.

This series has some of the absolute best visual gags. I keep thinking that the joke will get old, but it hasn’t yet.

I am still on vacation for another week in California! The past couple days I have been really absent due to an almost complete lack of internet connectivity while traipsing around the mountains and through national parks. This coming week I will be in the San Francisco area while visiting some other family. So, I should hopefully be more available.

Only two things I wanted to mention this week as I haven’t been able to read much:

    • Hajimete no Ojou-sama ended and it was a great ending. I couldn’t have asked for more. A nice little series clocking in at 21 chapters.
    • Tsuitenai Game Jikkyousha wa Akogare no Hito ni Kakinsareru also ended this past week, also with its 21st chapter. I also enjoyed this series, but the main character can be a bit dense at times. She has one of the best wingmen around though in her older brother.

I started reading The Unwomanly Face of War. It’s a based on a book with the same title by Svetlana Alexievich and tells real stories of women who took part in World War II. Combatants and support, across various places and parts of the war. It’s nice to see such an “overplayed” topic from a very underrepresented perspective.

English translation is a little iffy at times and some of the parts feel less like a story and more like someone making a report but it’s pretty interesting so far. I’m curious how it compares to the original book.

Also, some ongoing series finally updated last week so that was neat.

Edit: I read a few more chapters. It’s interesting, yes, but it’s also really emotional. Despite some problems I really like this one.

Since my busy period has ended, I honestly read too much stuff this week to catch up.

One thing I would like to post is Hammer Gramps. Far from what I usually read, this has been a joy.

The gist of it is that MC wants to become a magician, but the tuition cost is so high that he spends 50 years breaking rocks with a hammer to save money.

I had to stop several times to wipe my eyes from the tears of me laughing too hard.
It’s currently at 29 chapters and without any update since July, but looking at the release dates for all chapters this appears to be (sadly) normal.

I like to read only finished mangas, so I don’t know if I’m not up to date here, but: at the moment i’m reading The Dragon, the Hero, and the Courier. It’s a medieval fantasy manga that is mostly a comedy and seems a bit silly, but i really like that many interactions and events seem to have consequences later on, and are not one-time gags (unlike many other comedies). I also find interesting that the author at the end of each chapter likes to tell some trivia about the Middle Ages, how it is often adapted in fantasy manga, and how they choose to do it.
