I have been a Cybersecurity engineer for 6 years now mostly experienced in perimeter security like firewalls, sase, waf’s. Started with networking after my masters and moved on to Cybersecurity operations at first but mainly projects now (migrations, design and deploy, implement new tools etc).

I also have these certifications now CISSP, CCSP, CCZT, PCNSE and CCNP

Based on this you can see my experience is mainly concentrated on Network and security.

A logical next step that would make sense for me is Cybersecurity architect and for that I have been doing a lot of reading about enterprise architecture, risk management, zero trust. I did get a chance to work on enterprise architecture and risk management while assisting other teams with design and deploy.

Also trying to brush up on frameworks like NIST CSF, ISO 27001 to get a better idea on industry standards

Now when I am searching for jobs as a Cybersecurity architect, recruiters just keep saying that I have to be a architect to be considered for an architect role. I have to keep telling them to read my responsibilities and achievements which show that even as an engineer I do have experience working a bit on the architecture side.

Some other recruiters ask if I have an AWS cert or an Azure cert, etc. At this point after having all these certifications, I do not want to keep collecting more like pokemon.

I am looking for advice on how to proceed from here to better myself on architecture and grow in my role. I know ultimately work experience would be the best way but along with that is there anything else that I can do? any other topics that I should concentrate on?
