One small comment. You can put the global configs inside
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/git/config, and it’s loaded before~/.gitconfig.When you get into trouble there is ohshitgit to rescue you

Recently, she started to blog about git. I don’t think those are great for beginners but they are great quality. For beginners I would recommend other texts like Atlassian guides (the company behind bitbucket, alternative to GitHub), https://www.atlassian.com/git/tutorials or the Game ohmygit.org
