Meow, meow,
Few days ago I started working on a simple Wiki where I want to ‘collect’ all documentation on setting up Fediverse services and everything around it in one place.
Still adding new stuff on a daily basis. Hopefully it will be helpful to someone
How much of it is sysadmin 101? I ask because while I’ve done a lot of linux stuff (including hosting) before, I’ve always been curious about how to properly do sysadmin in production
Basically all of it 👌🏻 All docs should be doable for everyone
How to properly do sysadmin 101 for a homelab:
Backup and test restore your shit. Move backups somewhere they wont be destroyed if the primary is.
Secure your shit. Yes, its annoying. Yes, do it anyway. MFA, good unique passwords in a vault, ssh keys, cert bsded auth, firewalls, crowdsec running. If possible, expose nothing directly to the internet. Use a vpn like wireguard to connect to your home instead. It has clients for everything like your phone, laptops/etc.
Those 2 things will put you head and heels above professional sysadmins. If you really sort them out, start applying for jobs. Seriously.
Not a fan of reflinking (as you do with the VPS link) without at least acknowledging that you’re profiting when people use it.
Can always change that but yeah it’s direct support for all services including the server for admin.social
Instead of linking vps to the affiliate link it would be better to add something below it like “We recommend hetzner " which would be the hetzner link and at the bottom of the page add " we may earn compensation for affiliate links” or something like that. I would expect clicking vps to go to something explaining what a vps is, not to a certain provider.
Removed it already :D
Just to avoid things like dis in the future lol
it’s direct support for all services including the server for admin.social
Sounds like there’s no reason not to be transparent about it then.
Just removed it all together to avoid this :D
This looks really useful, thanks!
Goed bezig Stux!
Thank you so much!
Wow that looks good, thank you very much!
