In case you don’t know, Travis King is an American soldier who just recently fled to North Korea and the news here has been talking about him constantly.
Honestly, sounds pretty based; he’s reported as saying ‘he’s not returning, to his post or to Amerika’, and I can’t find fault with or condemn him as of right now. Hell, were I in his position, I’d do the same exact shit. I don’t trust Amerika to handle his legal case fairly, nor would I trust his ‘superiors’ to not execute him en route were he to have been escorted to the airport. Nah, I 100% support the defection of all Amerika’s subjects-of-empire currently in deluded service to this abomination of a country.
Honestly I was a little worried he was some r*pist escaping justice at first because of the way it was reported/people were talking about it, but from further reading it seems like it was just a bar fight? So probably pretty cool for him if he gets to stay there, although I’m sure he’ll miss his family

true, although maybe he doesn’t have a good relationship with his family
I was thinking this too. Iirc the last person who left to DPRK wasn’t close to their family.
DPRK here I come! Gotta get me some of that sweet sweet juche.
There’s been a few threads about it here. I think it’s hilarious. In my head I’m imagining Frank Dux from Bloodsport evading the US government agents. But I wish the best for the guy, and I hope the DPRK turns this into a great propaganda piece. Send postcards to the pentagon every week of Travis chilling on a Korean beach.

Don’t think he’s ideologically motivated. And even if he is, the last American who tried to defect was turned away. Unfortunately I think he’s going to also be turned away. But no one can really say for sure yet.
I think the prudent thing for the DPRK to do is to send him on his way to China. It is nice to imagine the DPRK taking in a defector but realistically they have to look out for their own security as there is always a risk that this could be an imperialist plot to try and smuggle in a spy or saboteur pretending to be a defector while employing the media to help them play up this story. Of course Pyongyang could have him put under 24/7 surveillance for the next few years but that is probably just too much effort for what would essentially be an act of charity, since there is nothing for them to gain out of this but maybe a bit of good PR with a very small number of people who are already sympathetic.
Not much but it’s sure funny how libs who are normally bending over to worship even open monsters in uniform are suddenly finding a bad apple in the military.
And they never have that energy for the mass of literal rapists that the military fosters, either…
