Yo, sup! I have some quick questions about Federation and Lemmy.
-
How are the comments that I make on other instances stored? Are they stored on the monero.town instance, and only accessible to other instances when they connect to monero.town?
-
If so, does that mean that the rules for this instance apply across all the lemmy instances I interact with (because all my comments end up getting hosted on this instance)?
Cant answer your second question, but to answer the first one, your origional comment is hosted here and a message gets sent to the other server that says “hey, this user on my instance made this comment on your users post” and the other server mirrors that comment. If monero.town goes down your comment is still seen because monero.town has a copy, the posters instance has a copy, and all the instances that are subscribed to that community have a copy.

Yep, it’s just an instance of "don’t put stuff on the internet that you don’t want others to see.
#2 complicated question. unless i manually go into peoples userprofiles, your comments get reported or i randomly stumble across them on another instance, i wouldnt even see the comments.
Keep in mind that it reflects badly on your entire home-instance if you act like an ass on other instances 😅
I see! I don’t plan on being an ass.
I mention this only because I can’t read German law. I wasn’t planning to do anything riskier than comment on a torrent/free content instance though.
Nah it is totally fine to talk about torrents, maybe just dont post any direct torrent links. The german law part is mostly about hatespeech (calling for violence against others, etc).
