Similar to a brick and mortar convenience store, but online and all prices in XMR? I could see such a store selling things like coffee filters, bar soap, tissues, feminine products, etc. However i dont know that it could work with being online since you could just go to the local wallgreens/cvs. The only way i could see it working is if a person was Monero only and totally refused to use fiat. As of now you can buy Gourmet coffee, meat bars, a plane ticket, etc with xmr but if you want a coffee filter and a box of granola bars you have to deal with fiat conversion and a gift card.
Edit: Not to say plain tickets aren’t important because they are, but how often are you buying a plain ticket compared to coffee filters and tissues
It’s a great idea, but really a better one is to open a small business in your area and accept Monero, or to help others open and support one that does, or to convert existing small businesses to accept Monero as one option rather than a dedicated XMR-only merchant.
There are many people who have worked on point of sale terminals or software or payment gateways for just this use-case, but the state goons hamper some of these attempts, and then complexity, lack of education and other things hamper adoption attempts as well. We here are very early on the adoption curve.
I’ve gotten almost no traction in my community with it despite patient attempts at education and offers of tech support. I may be living in the wrong region. Or maybe I’m a poor communicator and not practiced enough in my logic and persuasion. Who knows.
But that’s one thing I think is desperately needed for adoption.
That is the problem here as well. If I were to do something like that, I suspect I would have absolutely no customers because nobody around here knows what it is.
Edit: Plus something like that would need physical premises and I would not be able to pay the rent for a place like that with Monero and therefore would need Fiat in some small capacity.
