I’ve received more positive interactions in the last month here on Lemmy and I ever did in my 12 years on Reddit. On Reddit I am generally too anxious to post shit or engage in any way which led me to live that lurk life. I’m sure more toxicity will come as the user base continues to grow but, for now, this place is pretty fuckin’ cool and I appreciate you all.
I wouldn’t underestimate the ability for cultures to enforce themselves over time (though evolution is certainly inevitable).
The culture over on mastodon, despite huge migrations from twitter, has managed to have a persistent effect. Sometimes that’s been by pushing away people who don’t fit in (which has actually been controversial in some ways). But generally, it’s been by having a positive effect on people just like lemmy has on you (and me!) and encouraging such people to understand where that effect comes from and carry that effect forward.
Part of the idea of the fediverse, after all, is empowering us to take back the internet and make it what we want.
tbf compared to masto/“microblog fediverse”, the “threadiverse” barely had any culture beyond a few exceptions so this place is almost guaranteed to get “redditized” if you’re not on an instance that moderates with the same strictness you’d expect on masto (partly why i picked this instance among others)
i’ve seen my fair share of freeze-peach warriors in the comments here. all you have to do is to drop the word “defederation” anywhere and they’re all raging to “debate”
True. But there’s a sub selection of people who’ve come across to here and the influence of the wider fediverse too. So I wouldn’t say it’s a complete transplant.
