Putting aside the difficulty with setting up the application (not impossible, installing is not friendly to non-tech users), I have not had too much luck completing a haveno transaction just yet. Last time I used Haveno there were not many Zelle/CashApp vendors. When attempting to transact with some vendors I got an error message along the lines of “arbitrator not available” which quite honestly I don’t understand what it means or how to get around it.

I am hoping these issues are temporary since the network is literal weeks old. I am just wondering if anyone has had a more smooth experience using Haveno to aquire monero?

what scares me about using anything but native Monero is that those methods do not acknowledge the absolute imperative goal of anonymity for most Monero users. A cash app is likely KYC to some degree. I don’t know a way to safely purchase Monero with fiat currency and nothing I’ve seen on Haveno solves that problem. Perhaps more emphasis on ATM machines that dispense fiat for Monero and vice versa would be a good thing to focus on, or Point of Sale terminals for retail, as ubiquitous as VISA, Mastercard, or American Express.

There is going to be no way of getting it from Fiat to Monero without some sort of KYC. The entire Fiat banking system requires KYC. It just depends on who knows the information. In this case, it’s another peer and what they know is a name and possibly an email. A regular centralized exchange is quite a bit more invasive and can and will shut down your account if they so desire to. Somebody is going to know something about you, no matter which way you go. If you bought it with a credit card, the credit card company has your name and identifiable information. So that’s still KYC. I think about the only way to do it without any kind of KYC at all would be to do cash by mail.
