I know it’s easy internet likes to make a snarky political meme. But, can we not involve Star Trek? Why do we have to pollute this space with toxic politics? It’s everywhere else. Why does it have to be here?

2·1 year agoStarting with Season 5, Voyager did what the TNG movies did: they focused on the captain and the most popular crew member. Janeway & 7 of 9 became the new Picard & Data.

That didn’t answer the question. Is there an answer to this question, or a way to find the answer? I don’t see any way to see Feature Requests for NeoChat. Only instructions for submitting PRs.
EDIT: Found it in the KDE Bug Tracker - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466606
I thought that looked familiar, but didn’t want to assume that lighthouse stairways are unique.

81·1 year agoI think fans of Nix and NixOS would agree.
This seems like an unnecessary dichotomy. Infrastructure has to be maintained, period. If you don’t want to maintain it yourself, pay a provider to maintain it for you. If you want to maintain it yourself, you damned we’ll be interested in understanding all the parts of it. Setting up a hypervisor in the office to ‘set it and forget it’ is not the way to do this.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•[Question] Migrating and Upgrading Proxmox to New SSDs on Poweredge SafelyEnglish
4·1 year agoThis is a question probably better-suited for one of the Proxmox communities. But, I’ll give it a try.
Regarding your concerns about new SSDs and old VM configs: why not upgrade to PVE8 on the existing hardware? This would seem to mitigate your concerns about PVE8 restoring VMs from a PVE7 system. Still, I wouldn’t expect it to be a problem either way.
Not sure about your TrueNAS question. I wouldn’t expect any issues unless a PVE8 installs brings with it a kernel driver change that is relevant to hardware.
Finally, there are several config files that would be good to capture for backup. Proxmox itself doesn’t have a quick list, but this link has one that looks about right: https://www.hungred.com/how-to/list-of-proxmox-important-configuration-files-directory/
Is there any actual research? All I see are TikTok videos and Reddit comments.

2·1 year agoThis seems the correct advice. If the container is on the same host as the data, there’s no need to access the data via Samba. In fact, it’s likely the container doesn’t contain the samba client needed for such connectivity.
Assuming TrueNAS allows the containers to see local data, a bind mount is the way to go.

Self Hosted - Self-hosting your services.@lemmy.ml•[Question] For running Samba on a Debian host, what's the better solution? Native, LXC container, or VM?
2·1 year agoRight. You kind of want your bare metal OS as vanilla as possible. If you need to nuke and pave, you don’t need to worry about re-applying various configs. Additionally, on a theoretical level, if there’s a bug in something on the bare metal OS, the separation provided by VMs and containers should mean it doesn’t affect the the apps in those VMs / containers.
That seems easier - at least to me - than keeping track of configs in text files or even Ansible playbooks.

You mean the season with no cohesive arc and relies on recycling plots from other shows (mirror universe, aliens taking over bodies to observe reaction to disease, men falling for Orion woman, “Section 31”, etc, etc). This season was so desperate to show “we do that too” it was embarrassing. Even the way they ended the show was worse than just killing it.
