Lots of places already operate like a cashless society. It just happens to be that their cashless infrastructure is owned by another country.

Microsoft really took a step back from competing with Ballmer at the helm. Part of it relates to the problem where the company couldn’t really leverage its monopolistic powers across different market segments to gain an advantage.
There is an alternate reality where, unburdened by worries of vertical integration, Microsoft leverages its tech with TiVo, XBox, and Zune to build out an XBox capable of playing some in-demand video. I expect this includes Viacom’s library, which was experimenting with offering its first run shows online.
I can see that Microsoft persuading Viacom to give the XBox exclusive console access, either by getting bought out or an independent guarantee. This, combined with its Netflix streaming, pushes the XBox beyond being a console to something more.

There was an age where Microsoft was trying to do that as well; it failed miserably.
I partially blame the anti-trust settlement preventing Microsoft from being more aggressive.

The XBox has always been a play by Microsoft to keep one toe into the console space to keep the pipeline between console and PC games open.
The problem for Microsoft right now is that it isn’t making money on being in either space.

who would get sued in that scenario?
There is no equivalent to an IVA where I live. It also is likely going to become a major government problem needing to process a sizeable portion of the country’s vehicles through an IVA like process which requires an in-depth inspection and, a lot of times, comparison against the design standards for which the car was imported from.
And, as I noted earlier, the issue isn’t analysis but liability. A lot of the burden involving design and verification falls on various manufacturers who designed the cars they manufactured. Hell, few countries allow people to build their own cars from aftermarket parts only. The supply chain is there, but no one is building older cars that they just have to assemble with aftermarket parts.

Because, in this case, the manufacturer didn’t design the car.

you need to produce it to established standards.
And what if the established standards get people killed? Open source doesn’t provide a person or organization who is liable for design faults.

Why would the manufacturer take on liability for a design issue they didn’t design?

How many open source projects include safety guarantees of use? I can legally sue car manufacturers for faults in design of the car that I or others purchase. Who do I sue with open source projects if the crash is due to a flaw in design?

Why would someone design a car that anyone could copy? Even worse, how do you handle certain legal issues where the designer and manufacturer don’t have a legal agreement with each other?

Locking lug nuts are a thing already; this just sounds like they don’t want to give the key to the end consumer.
Of all the strange engineering charts and graphs I saw, the weirdest ones were in geotechnical engineering.

MS is running into a real problem where its two major product lines, Windows and Office, don’t have any major improvements that justify an upgrade. It is an existential crisis to the company’s profitability.
Now, MS has been able to make Office into a subscription, but it can’t do that with Windows.

That hasn’t been a thing since 2001.
An interesting bit to this news is that air quality improved outside of lower Manhattan. A lot of areas outside of NYC were fighting congestion pricing as they thought they were going to see increased traffic due to people parking there and taking a short train in.

That’s why I design targets.

Other EV’s have this problem too, so it isn’t just a Tesla problem.
I think the main issue is what happens when software support ends. There are tons of industrial and medical equipment with outdated software that work well today, mainly because there is an air gap between their computers and the Internet. That air gap may need to be enforced onto cars as default in the future.

The person is writing from a business prospective. If people are replacing their phones less often, it means that fewer phones are being purchased each year. If your company makes phones, that means adjusting to a shrinking market no matter what your company does.
I know. Trump wants to involve the Insurrection Act ever since the two deaths. You know, the two people killed by ICE.
