Reddit didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment. According to Rathschmidt, “We’ll no longer comment on hearsay, unsubstantiated claims, or baseless accusations from The Verge. We’ll be in touch as corrections are needed.”
That’s hilarious. Can’t say I’m surprised by the hostility – the articles from The Verge seem to be very favorable towards the protestors, third-party apps, etc.

Because that’s what’s driving traffic for them right now. Let’s not forget that The Verge is also a soulless corporate entity. Peters has been doing a good job at covering the issues, but he wouldn’t be allowed to be as thorough if the topic and angle wasn’t a good driver of traffic.
I’m tired of people calling reddit a soulless corporate entity. If that were remotely true, they’d charge just enough for 3PA to make it unpalatable but still get people to pay it. Not make it so expensive it kills them entirely. If they were a soulless entity, u/spez would be spouting just enough corporate speak to make people upset but not be offensive.
No, u/spez has made reddit something special in a sea of soulless corporate entities. U/spez has made reddit actually evil.
That quote just comes off super defensive, and that usually goes with the territory of being a shit head ime

LMAO Reddit digging its own grave there by begging for a war with The Verge too
The Mlem app is here for you, users, who need accessibility on Lemmy!
What a shitshow.
I remembered that they are moving to lemmy https://www.reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/14eaf68/open_alpha_rblind_a_community_on_lemmy_brought_to/?sort=new
Because of Reddit’s organic growth over time, it’s understandable that leadership may be unaware of/unfamiliar with all its moving parts. When good leaders discover moving parts are essential to a portion of their community, they normally strive to preserve and improve access to those moving parts. Not Reddit leadership: they’re continuing to double-down.
