A gamer has turned a SEGA Dreamcast Visual Memory Unit (VMU) into a handheld game console.
Wasn’t the VMU, from the start, already a portable handheld console? Sure it was just minigames, but thats the V in VMU. I remember playing the Skies of Arcadia minigame.
Dreamcast did have Memory Units that didn’t have the screen so they wouldn’t have been VMUs, but were still MUs. I appreciate the hack of a Pi Zero and a full color screen though. :)
I hope this isn’t another project claiming to repurpose old tech, only to instead core it like an apple and stuff a SOC in its guts…
Goddammit.
Yeah, it’s pretty lame.
I’d be ok if they just swapped the screen and maybe added a better power source. But all they are doing is putting another computer in it.
Would be hilarious if the next version of the pi zero was strong enough to emulate Dreamcast and play full Sonic adventure on the VMU
