  • males and females are defined universally by the type of gamete they have the biological function to produce—not by karyotypes, secondary sexual characteristics, or other correlates

That’s not typically the definition people use, but I do admit it’s a way of “solving” the issues of a binary that often arise when using the more common definitions. You’re either a sperm-maker or egg-maker.

So using this definition, there are likely still some intersex people or at the very least people who have an “undefined” sex.

  • Are people really worried about the driving itself? I thought most people were afraid of reduced range/cabin heating time (which is true, if over exaggerated).

The vast majority of people’s day-to-day driving is perfectly suited to an EV, the issue is many people buy a vehicle that can also handle the less frequent other types of driving that EVs aren’t as good at. If vehicles weren’t so expensive maybe it would be more common to own an EV and then a gas/hybrid to solve this, or maybe it could become more acceptable/easy/cheaper to rent a different vehicle for those other times.

  • Took the plunge this week. My secondary hard drive now has Mint and I’ve got it working so when I boot up I select which os/drive to start up. The plan is to use Mint primarily for awhile and get used to it.

Definitely a bit less intuitive, and many things are still needing to be done through the consol instead of the GUI which is annoying. Haven’t had success migrating my Firefox profile without creating an account. Haven’t figured out how to get the “dual” monitor setup to work the way a I want either. Feels like a bit of a downgrade but I’m hoping once I get past the initial setup pains it’ll be smooth sailing.

I loathe the trend to blame the end consumer for their waste and eliminate very publicly visible things like straws when the vast majority is caused by industry every step of the way. The amount of plastic I see in retail garbage bins is sickening, and the average customer has no clue because it’s all long before anything ends up on the shelf.

Then people stop using plastic cutlery and think they’re helping the planet meanwhile it’s just a facade to keep the real wasters off their radar.
