Monero•CC payment processors are dropping Civitai. The response: introducing "crypto payments"
22·8 months agoNot sure you want to celebrate that your currency could be used to pay for non-consentual slop pornography…

Solarpunk technology@slrpnk.net•Watching o3 guess a photo’s location is surreal, dystopian and wildly entertaining
2·9 months agoThe model output also circles around the initial guess. So the final result central ca is also the one shot result without the “reasoning” non sense. So instead of wasting, who knows how much power, a much simpler model to determine the vegetation would have given the same result.
Can you use git without a forge? Sure. As long as you don’t give a hoot about the entry barrier. But for any open source project were you want to encourage contribution you better have a nice presence on a forge.
Yup. Guinea pigs also need to eat their own poop for normal digestion.

Buy European@feddit.uk•It has been a few weeks since we started this, which European email provider have you switched to?
1·10 months agoI created a mailbox.org account. But so far I have only moved contacts and my calendar. I’m still a bit miffed that they don’t support proper oauth/MFA. Guess that never got established as a standard for email :(
But otherwise it works great for what I need.
Slack is not owned by MSFT. Maybe you are thinking of Teams. Slack is owned by Salesforce.

Programming@programming.dev•Where can I find a debugger with a GUI for Linux?
21·10 months agoAs I assume you’re not looking for FOSS-only solutions, you probably want to go with Jetbrains IDEs (IntelliJ). They are arguably the best IDEs around and have native Linux versions.
I assume you are mostly working with C/C++. I don’t have first experience with CLion but haven’t heard anything negative about it.

Programming@programming.dev•Any nushell users out there? Is it worth learning and using as my defualt shell?
4·1 year agoWhy not just use Powershell then? It’s been available for Linux for a long time. I use it for scripting quite often

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Six EU countries call for lowering of G7 price cap on Russian oil
6·1 year agoAre there any figures how much Russia still sells on the open market vs. via the shadow fleet? The cap doesn’t mean anything if they just avoid it

Opensource@programming.dev•VLC tops 6 billion downloads, previews AI-generated subtitles
1·1 year agoThat’s not what LLMs are, but it’s a marketing buzzword in the end I guess. What you linked is a transformer based sequence-to-sequence model, exactly the same principal as ChatGPT and all the others.
I wouldn’t say it is a good use of AI, more like one of the few barely acceptable ones. Can we accept lies and hallucinations just because the alternative is nothing at all? And how much energy/CO2 emissions should we be willing to waste on this?

Opensource@programming.dev•VLC tops 6 billion downloads, previews AI-generated subtitles
442·1 year agoYeah, transcription is one of the only good uses for LLMs imo. Of course they can still produce nonsense, but bad subtitles are better none at all.
She probably won’t be able, like most athletes, to do this until regular retirement age. So why not make the most of it now. She can always go back into research if she felt like it after she can retire for life.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Assassin's Creed Origins is getting bombed with negative reviews because of Microsoft’s 24H2 Windows 11 update which has bricked the game for a lot of people.English
29·1 year agoI think it’s quite a few Ubisoft games that are affected. So kinda yes and no. But for me it broke Firefox and I had to roll back, so that update in general is just an awful pile of garbage

Opensource@programming.dev•Microsoft open-sourced a Python tool for converting files and office documents to Markdown
111·1 year agoWhat do you mean by parser? Office docs are just zipped XML files. They are trivial to parse. The hard part is all the quirks the document renderers have, which makes it impossible to perfectly match the output. But markdown can’t handle any complex formatting anyway
