As someone who used Gnome 1 in school, tried KDE 1 and 2 on the family PC for a while, then later switched their private PC to that same Hardy Heron Ubuntu Gnome 2 install and moved from there to Gnome 3.2 or 3.4 when it became available in Ubuntu - this was nice, the cheese theme especially.

I don’t really know what kind of demographic misses switching to different window managers in this way though. I never did. But I don’t really get the tiling window manager craze either - that is certainly easy enough to set up as a different session.

A few things he missed though:

• Previewing media files in the Nautilus side panel.
• Gimp had no menu bar, most everything needed to be done from the context menu. The saving grace was that most menus could be torn off into little palette-style windows though.
• The Gimp installation with the orange window he shows is just a user setup wizard. I remember that e.g. at my school, it was important to fix the DPI setting for our monitors on the first run because the window manager wasn’t reliable on that front.
• I believe there was a sliding animation when hiding a desktop panel with the <|> buttons at the side. That was nice at the time.
• I am not completely sure whether Sawfish had that feature or whether it was only available on the KDE window manager, but you could double-click the title bar of windows to hide the window content and show only the title bar.

Schick und gefällt mir an sich. Das Produkt scheint es aber nicht mehr zu geben. (Ich sollte auch dazu sagen, dass ich kein Amazon-Konto mehr habe. Wenn das die einzige Variante ist, das zu bestellen, ist das nicht optimal für mich.)

Den Emsa hab ich auch. Das Hauptproblem daran ist wahrscheinlich das große Plastikteil oben, über das viel Wärme verloren gehen kann. Ergo solltest du nach etwas mit schmalerer Öffnung oder etwas mit isolierendem Deckel schauen, denke ich.

True but the caps are tethered now, so in any country with a deposit system they will most likely be returned.

The complaint of the person above me was that instead of throwing the cap in the sea, people now supposedly throw the entire bottle in the sea. (When I write it out like this, that sounds like complete nonsense … Those same people previously might have thrown away the entire bottle too).

That’s where a bottle deposit system could come in.

It’s not just that, the tethered caps are usually redesigned versions of their untethered ancestors. As such, they often use less material than the original version, making them cheaper in the long run.

Ich stimme dir zu, dass es insgesamt sinnvoll ist, das Geschlecht nicht dauernd in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Es ist aber einerseits sehr menschlich, sich Gruppen zugehörig fühlen zu wollen (und ich glaub auch, bin aber kein Biologe, dass unsere Interessen zumindest teilweise auch hormonell gesteuert sind). Andererseits muss man irgendwie geschlechterbasierte Diskriminierung beschreiben und angehen können und dabei dürften Kategorien helfen.

Und wir sollten auch das biologische Geschlecht eher als Raum, denn als binär Auswahl zwischen zwei Punkten sehen. Das macht es erst mal komplizierter, aber darin kann m.E. auch eine Chance für z.B. die Medizin liegen. Nicht jede Person mit XX-Chromosomenpaar ist fruchtbar, etc.

Die Chance, dass man eine kluge, reflektierte, fundierte Meinung aus der Anti-West-Ecke hört, ist leider nicht unbedingt hoch. Auch wenn es die natürlich gibt.

Gibt’s dazu eine Königs-Erläuterung? Ich versteh, dass da irgendein Bezug aufs 1000-jährige Reich drin ist, aber da hörts auf.
