Although HyperOS and adware infested apps are a massive let down. And since this is Xiaomi, you can’t install custom ROMs from what I remember.

Rekall Incorporated@lemm.eeto Android@lemdro.id•F-Droid Awarded Open Technology Fund’s FOSS Sustainability GrantEnglish3·4 months agoI like F-Droid, but does anyone else find that the versions in their repos often lag behind the current release (sometimes significantly so)?

I like the tools provided by DietPi, they make headless administration very easy. You don’t need to remember details, just load up the right DietPi tool.
I haven’t tried linreelc.

Its primary goal is to provide a minimal yet efficient environment for running various applications and services with minimal resource consumption.

Semiconductors costs have gone up and they will only continue to get even more expensive. At the same time, graphics are reaching a “good enough” phase, where marginal increases in fidelity require exponentially more processing power.
It also doesn’t make financial sense to not eventually release games on PC (if not have a same day multi-platform release).
Rekall Incorporated@lemm.eeOPto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube takes over the living room: Viewers stream over a billion hours a dayEnglish181·6 months agoI think by this point, the only option is breakup and mandatory federation with independent frontends, service providers all competing against each other. They have a monopoly.
Google would argue they don’t really have a monopoly since they compete against streaming, but that’s a malicious, pre-information age interpretation of monopoly power.

The sharp, minimalist vector graphics of badger badger badger gave it character and pedigree. Not like the tiktok junk of today.
And you had know how to install and patch browser plugins and computers required knowledge. You had to know about the URL and share it on MSN messenger. Not like the brain dead smartphone apps used by modern teens.

It’s your local joint that’s not the best, but can offer a fun experience. You would only invite certain specific friends who you know would appreciate the experience.

Any more info on this? Curious about phosphorus, haven’t heard about it before in context of long-term space travel.
Rekall Incorporated@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•How long will it be until we realize AI is detrimental to society?English2·7 months agoI wouldn’t go that far, oligarchs (in the US or otherwise) are generally very intelligent, sophisticated (in the functional sense) and even hard working.
This is not meant to be some sort of justification, they are clearly corrupt, deeply dishonest and extremely malicious. That doesn’t mean they should be underestimated or one should discount their capabilities.

Hopefully this trend will continue and and Mastodon can retain at least a solid percentage of those why try it.

And they do have very strong leverage.
Rekall Incorporated@lemm.eeto Android@lemdro.id•Google Pixel reportedly sees 3x growth in North America in just one month – is it too good to be true?English16·8 months ago1 month is nothing and the data from Statcounter is likely to be more directional (since from my understanding it’s not based on shipments or POS transaction aggregation). If they saw multiple quarters of significant gains in market share, that would be a different story.

That being said, north america switching to day first would already be a massive achievement.
