What’s the difference? Can I see piefed communities through Lemmy? Or do I need a different account and/or app?

That’s absolutely true. If your comment had said “That can be a trauma response that manifests in some NDs lvining in an NT world. It’s not always innate.” I wouldn’t have replied.
There are a depressing number of people who make very absolute claims that all the problems of neurodiversity come from the world not being designed for them. While I understand why it sometimes feels like that, it’s absolutely not true for many people with ASD, ADHD, etc.
My ADHD family and I rush through things and interrupt each other because if we don’t were likely to forget something important that just popped into our mind. But by interrupting we made the other one forget what they were talking about.
Living in a world that isn’t adapted to my needs can be exhausting, but it’s not the reason I rush through things. That’s pretty innate to my neurodiversity.

2·1 month agoThis is absolutely not a subject I know about in detail, but I feel like there are credible reports of the printed guns.
And I agree that if the government wanted to absolutely control all internet access and devices they could make it very hard for anyone to use it without going outside their supervision. But “banning all Linux devices” is quiet a different level of authoritarianism than “force android producers to install government software”.

13·1 month agoThey might ban it, but if its diy there’s little they can do to actually enforce it. People can 3d print guns or make bombs because you can’t control basic tech. Making a mobile device is harder because the carriers could try and detect unofficial access. But even having a device that’s only for wifi is better than allowing the goverrment to constantly monitor everything their citizens do and say online.

35·1 month agoWe really need to come up with some DIYable devices. A future where most nation states insist in this sort of backdoor feels distressingly inevitable at this stage…

2·2 months agoThanks for the reminder, I had genuinely forgotten this morning. Why is it so hard?
I basically agree with you. But I will say that there’s increasing research on the role of emotions in adhd that suggests that we are prone to having more extreme reactions. Everyone remembers the cringe moments but maybe we get more embarrassed about smaller things, and they stick in our mind. Similarly, everyone has difficulty moving on from something that enraged them but people have different thresholds for what throws them into that heightened state.

71·2 months agoI just spent my lunch break searching through the mod log after I saw that your post had been removed. It’s super irritating that, even though I’d commented in the original post, all I could see was it’s title and that it had been deleted. I couldn’t see how to see the username, or to sort the mod log by community, instead of by user or mod action.
Anyway, I’m pissed on your behalf. Sure, the tone could have been more conciliatory, but you were posting about something that was irritating, but fundemtnally not a big deal. So, more on topic than the politics posts. And I don’t think listing the mods and their activity is harressment, you weren’t saying much except you didn’t think the mod team was very active and had the receipts to prove it.
I see there’s another post today naming and shaming a user who posted in a women’s only community, “quoting” a female coworker. I agree the poster is mildlyinfuriating, but I still think we’d be better blurring out individual user names, otherwise you’re inviting harassment. (just like the thorn guy, who does irritate me, but is perfectly entitled to carry on doing so without people abusing him).

When I lived alone I ended up airbnbing my spare room. It was sometimes stressful, but it meant my house was constantly tidy. As soon it was just me the entire house would sink in to madness.
Yeah, I think the “simulation hypothesis” is a super pointless take, partly because it is so profoundly unfalsifiable. It’s no more plausible or convincing to me than “the universe exists in God’s mind” or “we are figment within a dream of a dragon”.
Propenents try to argue things like “if we can create lifelike simulations, then we’d create loads of them, therefore we’re statistically likely to be inside one”. But that’s to draw conclusions about what the “outer” universe is like from features of the simulation. If our reality is within a greater one, I don’t find more evidence for it being a “computer simulation” than for it being inside Tommy Westphall’s snow globe.
Would totally grab one of those if they were on sale. Would love to play Ultima V on that keyboard.
All the time. But I don’t see it as a bad thing. I love rewatching shows, and I can really enjoy a show, then years later rewatch it and realise I have a whole season and a half of new episodes!
Read the manga anyway, Gas Turbines are lit
Totally. The smell is awful, ive always associated it with smell of an ripe bag of garbage. I don’t know if it’s because bananas just smell bad, or because the smell of old banana peel in the trash is the scent that I notice the most, but it’s not a good association.
The taste. I’ve tried to like them. Had them in smoothies and banana bread, had the is savoury and sweet things. I even made myself eat one everyday while hiking cross country, thinking I’d learn to associate the taste which much needed energy. Nothing worked, they just taste like garbage smells. And the texture! Firm and soft each have their unique horrors.
Yeah, the fact that “angrily doing something to prove a point” is much more effective than “knowing it’s important and promising to do it” leads to some unhealthy relationship dynamics…

Something I’ve tried to do is figure out a safe departure time rationally, then set a timer for 15 minutes before. Knowinf that I don’t have to remember or think or judge whetjer its getting late has been really helpful for escaping that endless clock-checking stress.
