    It’s to provide security to people who are high-value targets. There are often multiple decoy cars, so that potential attackers don’t know which car their target is in, as well as cars carrying security people, communications, medical staff, whatever is deemed necessary to protect the “package”. Roads get closed because there has to be an quick exit path.

      I don’t reckon any of those are really necessary, I also don’t think that aside from the greasy monkey anyone else is gonna be shot at

            Motorcade practices have advanced since 1963. Kennedy’s assassination happened the last time a US president rode in an open top car, because of his assassination.
